Recommit to a new adventure

Today, March 20th, marks the Vernal Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere of the globe. This is a day of renewal and new beginnings, not only of the physical growth upon the Earth, but of the soul within each of us. At this time of year, we open our windows, and brush away the dust and cobwebs of winter. We take a deep breath and renew our goals with a vigorous spirit.

The cyclic nature of every year, the consistent recovery and renewal, can be found throughout the world from the natural growth cycle of plants, to the healing of wounds, to our own ways of struggling through life changes, and even in the very rising and setting of the sun.

American writer, Joseph Campbell, born during the same time of year, writes in his comparative  exploration of the archetypal hero of world myths that the hero’s journey is “a labor not of attainment but of reattainment, not discovery but rediscovery.”

Adam, the hero in our trilogy, goes through countless struggles. From his difficulty in finding a balance between family and career in “Adam in Taoland,” to learning when to hold back on pushing his own goals in favor of helping others who are struggling in “Homeland Rescued,” to confronting and learning to accept his wife’s cognitive decline in “Never Forgotten,” Adam must constantly adapt and overcome, recover and become a better and renewed version of himself.

Let us all become the heroes of our own stories, vowing to constantly shed the husk of our old selves in order to take on a new and better form.
