Harnessing Power

Nikola Tesla was an inventor, electrical engineer, and physicist born on July 10, 1856, in modern-day Croatia. He is best known for his contributions to the development of the alternating current (AC) electrical system — which is still the foundation of energy to power homes and businesses today.

Tesla's work was critical to the development of the modern power grid, which allowed for the transmission of electricity over long distances. He also made important contributions to the development of wireless communication, X-rays, and radio technology, among other fields.

In Adam in Taoland, just as many people do today, our hero is only able to do everything he does due to the application of electricity to computers. He harnesses the power of artificial intelligence for the greater good by using it for breakthrough improvements in medicines and the cures and prevention of previously untreatable diseases. But Adam warns us to never allow AI or any technology take away our human purpose and reasons for living. At the beginning of our series, Adam lives on a planet where AI has been allowed to step out of the bounds we must keep it in. AI controlled robots, the Plakerols, control every aspect of human life by providing for basic needs but ignoring the needs of the human soul – aspects like love, creativity, and even the basic family unit. 

Today Tesla is celebrated as one of the greatest inventors in history and is remembered for his innovative thinking, his commitment to scientific exploration, and his dedication to advancing the cause of human progress. Elon Musk has honored this great scientist by naming his game-changing Electric Vehicle after his own hero — Nikola Tesla.

We must enjoy the advancements of technology without allowing it to take over our lives. We honor and respect those who made such huge leaps with inventions that better our lives. But in our ever-more technologically advanced world we also set limits on how we allow it to enter and affect our lives.
